In July, 1980, West Valley City was officially incorporated, joining three communities west of the Jordan River: Redwood, Granger, and Hunter. This "tri-city" inspired the design of the city's "WV" logo, with the three "peaks" of the inverted letters representing not only the Oquirrh mountains (did you know Oquirrh was an early contender for the city's official name?) but the three communities coming together as one.
